Read together
It is never too early to start reading with your child. A baby or toddler may not understand everything just yet, but it is the quality time together that makes them feel safe and loved.
Family dinners
An important house rule should be that everybody should be home for dinner. Studies done by the National Centre for Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University show that teenagers who have dinner with the rest of the family are less likely to smoke, drink, suffer from eating disorders or abuse drugs.
Practice a sport together
Cycling or hiking are great ways to enjoy the great outdoors together. Apart from the health benefits, this gives you the chance to catch up and get to know each other as people instead of as parent and child.
Show (don’t buy) love
Kids should know that you love them. Tell them every day. Write notes where you know they will find it. And you don’t have to just stick to "I love you". Try messages like "I believe in you", "You are the best" and "Thanks for helping around the house".
