Start your Summer Bikini body goal now. Why now? It’s easier to achieve over a longer period so you will be sexier than the pack come summer. Plus, if you have any weight to lose, losing it slowly means more chance of keeping it off for good.

It’s all about your mindset. You have to start thinking positive. If you think its going to be hard work, it will be! First be aware of your current health and weight. Measure your Body Mass Index and calculate your ideal body weight, and set realistic goals (general guide no more than 3lbs or 1kg per week).

5 basic ways to get your body ready for Summer*
  1. Visualize regularly – close your eyes and see yourself as you want to be, and believe it. Imagine yourself in summer with your ideal body. What are you doing? What do your clothes feel like over your toned body? See and feel it in detail - feel the sun on your face, the bounce in your step. Dream to your hearts content. The more you practice visualizing the easier it gets, and the sooner you will achieve your dream.

  2. Cut the boozing - or at least the sugary ones like cocktails. Alcohol makes you fat because it's nothing but empty calories! Fat from alcoholic beverages gathers around your mid-section giving you that horrid muffin-top waistline. If you can’t stop altogether, try wine spritzers.

  3. Get moving – endorphins, endorphins, endorphins! Join a group training session to help you keep motivated. Else get yourself a stationary bike for Christmas, or try Yoga. Do cardio for at least 3 times a week for half an hour, and then throw in some light weight training not only for toning but because the muscle you build will burn calories faster than fat.

  4. Don’t starve yourself - eat 3 balanced meals a day, and keep nutritious snacks in your handbag so you don’t pig out. Always eat breakfast to kickstart your metabolism, a snack in between each meal, and try include 5 fruit and/or veggies a day and stay away from fried and processed foods. Limit portion sizes. Don't punish yourself, have your treats too, just moderate them eg Saturday is fried (in olive oil) bacon and eggs day, or Wednesday evening is chocolate night.

  5. Look after your skin by regularly exfoiliating and moisturizing. Keep well hydrated by drinking water to flush out the toxins.

Set realistic goals – and break them up into measurable steps so you can monitor your progress. Reward your achievements. If you stray, don’t give up in disgust - forgive yourself, move on quickly, and keep working it. It gets really exciting see the positive results within weeks.

Oh yes, if you smoke, you know you need to cut that out too. Use your visualizations to picture your new healthy beautiful life without the ciggs.
