Although womens labour force size continues to experience growth, senior women are still missing in top posts. In the UK only 10% of directors of the UK’s FTSE 100 firms, 20% of members of parliament, and 17 % of editors of national newspapers are women, and it’s forecased it will take 60 years to correct the balance. Interestingly, women’s representation in parliament in Iraq, Afghanistan and Rwanda rank more highly than the UK! The Commission for Equality and Human Rights is recommending that we all have the right to request flexible working conditions, and the availability of more high-quality well-paid flexible and part-time work at higher levels.
Women are still being paid less than men. According to National Statistics UK, the gender pay gap has narrowed to 12% difference in pay between men and women in the UK, but still 17% internationally.
It is therefore important for us to be aware of which jobs have the biggest potential for growth (both in number of new opportunities opening up, as well growth opportunities).
