- Switch to an oil-based moisturizer and moisturize frequently. The more oil a moisturizer contains the more effectively it protects against moisture loss (do not do this if you already have oily skin).
- SPF 15 sunscreen outdoors - sunscreen on all exposed skin is important even in winter as the sun’s reflective powers are great year round - snow reflects UV light, and so does sand. Also protect lips with a lip balm with a SPF to help prevent chapping.
- Shower using Lukewarm water – hot water removes natural oil from the skin. Limit showers to under 15 minutes. If you prefer bathing, add essential oils such as neroli, marjoram, rose and rosemary to the bath water. Use mild non-deodorized soaps and moisturize immediately after shower or bath while your skin is still wet to help trap moisture in.
- Use a humidifier to place moisture in the air - With the heat on and the windows closed, the air inside can become very dry in the winter. If you don’t want to invest in an expensive humidifying system, place two or three smaller humidifiers around your home.
- Try the Detox Body Peel for a quick body make-over or dab petroleum jelly on areas that are already very dry or damaged.
